Like most great things in life, it all started with a simple question: “why is local music not mainstream?”. To which, Hyder responds with vigour by dedicating his collection of skills from different trades; stepping up to the challenge of wanting to make a difference.
With a background in Multimedia Infocomm Technology, Hyder spent his formative years growing as a drummer in various bands and upon graduation, became a full-time musician for 2 years in pop punk sensation West Grand Boulevard. In 2007, his love for local music inspired the birth of Invasion Singapore and the inception of the School Invasion Tour — a music programme spreading the gospel of local music by invading school assembly periods. During its first run, the tour saw approximately 100 schools and has with media partners such as Mediacorp Radio 98.7FM, youth.sg, and presenting partners like The National Library Board, Coca Cola, and Nokia.
His hunger for more business knowledge and need for more problem-solving experiences eventually spurred him to put the tour operations on a pause as he re-focused the next 3 years on building his career as a marketing intelligence consultant — selling data driven solutions to business problems for corporate clients in APAC, such as UOB, DBS, Abbot, 3M, M&C Saatchi, and Danone.
Fast forward to 2014, Hyder returns to his first love and together with his partner, Inch Chua, he utilizes the collective experience consulting on marketing intelligence solutions for corporations to rebuilds the Invasion team as a social enterprise with a renewed purpose — focusing on market research, audience and industry development activities for made-in-Singapore music. Hyder is currently CEO and Captain of the Invasion Singapore Enterprise.
Since then, Inch has played at numerous festivals like SXSW Music/Interactive (Austin, Texas, USA), The Canadian Music Festival (Toronto, Canada), CMJ Music Marathon (New York, USA), MIDI (Beijing, China), Mosaic (Singapore), Baybeats (Singapore) and Music Matters (Singapore). She has also opened for The Like, Katy Perry, Macy Gray and Vampire Weekend.
Inch graduated from Lasalle College Of The Arts with Arts Management and has since been sharpening her music business sense with a forward-thinking new media approach. She has spoken on many panels such as Creative Commons Licensing Meetings, TEDx Singapore, The Global TEDxWomen Conference, Library@Esplanade & Social Media Week. Inch is currently based in Singapore/Los Angeles/New York, the co-founder and COO of Invasion Singapore, a full-time touring artist, and caregiver to a 17-year-old senile Shih Tzu.
Though she maybe the youngest and newest addition to the Invasion Family, firecracker Vygeshwari possess versatility and tenacity beyond her years. She began her foray into the arts with her love for drawing & design in school, finding catharsis and comfort at her natural proficiency at it.
A graduate from Republic Polytechnic with a Diploma In New Media, Vygesh grew under the mentorship of Assistant Programme Director of LUSH 99.5FM Mediacorp Radio, Vanessa Fernandez, during her internship, where her administrative, video production, social media management, and visual communication design skills were sharpened.
Subsequently, she was hired as a freelance producer and designer for LUSH 99.5FM, cementing her interest in the arts. Pivotal in managing the #lushloveslocal campaign, which started as a station initiative to celebrate and support Singapore’s music scene through the on-air and online platforms, Vygeshwari found herself developing a deeper affinity with the music universe and a heart for the advocacy of made-in-Singapore music.
Vygeshwari is currently the heart muscle of Invasion Singapore, running the execution of Social Media & Events with fiery passion.
Joshua’s personal and professional experience spans a wide range of disciplines: he’s worked across research, creative, marketing, and editorial departments; is a musician; and was the lead actor in a Cannes-nominated film, Sandcastle.
His introduction to the arts began with a Diploma in Visual Communication at Temasek Polytechnic, during which he photographed gigs and concerts for several years before taking up the bass guitar in indie-rock outfit The Fire Fight. He subsequently moved to London to further his studies and now holds a BA in Media and Communications, as well as an MSc in Consumer Behaviour from the Institute of Management Studies at Goldsmiths University.
During his time there, his research in online behaviour was selected for inclusion in the university archives; and he conducted service design technology studies in collaboration with a large multinational media agency. Joshua is certified in PRINCE2 Foundation-level project management, and also holds an Occupational Ability and Personality psychometric testing qualification from The Criterion Partnership.
Having watched the gradual shift in talent and audience attitudes towards homegrown music from afar, he now hopes to apply his experiences to developing a market close to his heart. Joshua is currently the head data crunching wiz and researcher at Invasion Singapore.
